Bose 3-2-1 Series II review: Bose 3-2-1 Series II

Proprietary Bose® technology allows you to hear home theater sound from practically everything you play, even older TV programs and videotapes that weren't recorded in surround sound. You can connect three audio sources through analog or digital jacks. The system is compatible with MP3 CDs and can decode Dolby Digital and DTS surround soundtracks from DVDs and external sources. This Bose® breakthrough works in concert with the small speakers to deliver a fuller range of theater sound and effects.

Enhanced Media CenterThe Bose 3•2•1 GS II DVD home entertainment system incorporates a progressive scan DVD/CD player with an AM/FM tuner to deliver a superior multi-media performance without a stack of components. The positioning of the two speaker modules is crucial because much of the surround sound effect relies on side walls reflecting the audio waves to give the impression of a 5.1 speaker system. Unfortunately it cannot equal the total immersive effect that a full surround system achieves using the extra speakers. Having said that, if surround speakers are not an option for you then this system should be auditioned. This system's performance in most test scenarios was simply amazing.

To their credit, the well-balanced satellites didn't overemphasize any part of the frequency spectrum. On the other hand, music didn't have as much texture and detail as we've heard from better speakers. About this product

Bose has borrowed an idea from PC connections, using a DB9 plug which is inserted and then hand screwed into the Accoustimass module. The ends of the cables from the DB9 plug simply insert into their respective speakers. The Bose Series II comprises a dark-grey sub-woofer module called the "Accoustimass" module, a slim media centre and two speaker modules.
